Conseil pour la protection des malades (CPM)
Me Brunet was admitted to the Bar of Montreal in 1982; he has a Masters in Public Administration and has worked for 30 years in managing municipalities. For the past 20 years, Me Brunet has been a legal advisor, CEO and spokesman for the Conseil pour la protection des malades (CPM). The CPM is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 by the late brother Claude, who was dedicated to advocating for citizens’ rights to humane and sufficient health care and services. He gives conferences across the country and is regularly approached by the media to comment on public interest cases involving enforcement of the fundamental rights of some of our health system’s most vulnerable users.
In 2002, the Montreal Bar Council decided to award him a medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to advancing the cause of justice. In 2017, the Senate of Canada also decided to award him the 150th Anniversary Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to supporting patients’ rights, his devotion as well as his hard work in improving citizens’ living conditions (this medal was created to enable senators to pay tribute to Canada’s “unsung heroes” as part of the anniversary of Confederation.
