Final Project Report: Imaginons Notre Agora at Paul-Émile Léger CHSLD
Thanks to the $250,000 Giséle Allard Fund, HVD, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life of residents living in long-term care centres (CHSLD), authorised the use of this fund to realize the project “Imaginons Notre Agora”. This innovative project, administered by the Paul-Émile Léger CHSLD (formerly known as Saint-Charles-Borromée Hospital) aimed to create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for residents.
Beyond improvements made to the infrastructure, the institution solicited the participation of the residents themselves. By conducting a needs assessment, the institution asked them what would most improve their daily lives. This assessment resulted in a series of projects led by residents and caregivers aimed at fostering engagement, well-being, and a sense of belonging to a community. Each project was carefully evaluated after its completion to ensure that it met the needs and expectations of participants.
One of the most enduring successes is the Project Café Internet, which is still operating today. Open to all residents, including those living with neurocognitive disorders, the café provides a welcoming space that encourages interaction and enjoyment.

2018 Conference - Adaptées aux politiques et à l’organisation actuelles du réseau MSSS
Ensemble Vers La Bientraitance
In 2018, the conference Ensemble… Vers un mouvement de bientraitance : conférence sur l’exercice et le respect des droits des résidents en CHSLD publics was organized by HVD in collaboration with an expert committee, as part of the Hélène Rumak Fund. It brought together more than 130 participants, including residents, caregivers, members of residents’ and users’ committees, volunteers, staff and managers of CHSLDs, as well as representatives of community organizations. Another hundred people attended the event via webcast.
Its goal was to identify solutions to improve service quality and respect for the rights of residents in CHSLDs. A document summarizing the recommendations from these discussions is available.
